Prism Medical UK has turned to an innovative locker solution to ensure its Service and Repair Engineers are able to receive parts as quickly and conveniently as possible. Working with local authorities across the UK, several major Hospital Trusts and Authorities and some of the UK’s largest Care Home Groups, Prism Medical operates one of the largest teams of experienced engineers in the UK.

Prism Medical UK is part of an international company which provides specialist equipment for the safer moving and handling of the less mobile within their homes, long term care or acute hospital environments. With over 20 years’ experience in developing, manufacturing and supplying moving, handling and bathing equipment, Prism Medical recognised that it wasn’t always practical for engineers across the UK to travel to one of its four regional service centres.

Using traditional delivery methods, delays were inevitable with engineers having to wait at home for parts to arrive or in the event of a missed delivery, having to travel to delivery depots and wait for their parts to be brought back.

Critical equipment such as ceiling track hoists, mobile hoists, stand aids, shower trolleys and stretchers are critical to ensuring a good quality of life for patients and Prism Medical recognised the importance of a quick service and repair solution. It found the locker service offered by ByBox, end-to-end field solutions specialist to be the perfect fix.

With 18,000 locker doors at over 1,500 locations across the UK, ByBox is an established name in the field services market. It works with companies in a variety of sectors to get parts and equipment to their engineers. ByBox delivers in-night which means parts are in lockers pre 8am, with lockers located at convenient sites such as petrol stations, supermarkets, shopping centres and train stations. Engineers are alerted by text or email when parts are delivered and with a 99.77% pre 8am delivery success rate, the service is one of the most reliable in the industry.

Using the ByBox service, the efficiency of Prism Medicals’ engineers has increased with more jobs completed per day as engineers can start earlier with no delay. Engineers can also return parts through the lockers with ease, they simply place faulty or used parts in a locker with a return label and ByBox routes them to the correct return destination.

Mark Garritt, Managing Director of ByBox said, “It is a waste of company time and resource to have highly skilled engineers waiting around for parts to arrive or travelling miles to collect them. Our service seeks to eradicate this kind of wastage and make the delivery process as simple and hassle free as possible. Our locker network spans the country and because of our reach, a locker is always on average within 2.5 miles of an engineer’s home address or customer’s site. It is essential that servicing and repairs on medical equipment are carried out quickly as delays are not only costly but also affect the quality of lives of patients and their caregivers. Engineers shouldn’t have to delay jobs because of delivery problems and our service ensures this is not the case.”

Jon Ralph, Group Operations Manager of Prism said, “Since beginning the relationship with ByBox, Prism Medical UK has seen a measurable increase in both service engineer productivity and efficiencies. This has translated into faster response times for customers awaiting return visits due to spare parts being required and a reduction in the running costs of each engineer. Overall the system works very well.”

The ByBox service provides a modern day twist on parts delivery. More and more companies are turning to the pioneering locker solution which has won several prestigious awards and accolades including the Motor Transport 2011 Award for Best Use of Technology. It was also listed in the 2011 and 2012 Sunday Times International Track 200 table.
