The National Regulator for Compulsory Specifications, in consultation with other key stakeholders such as the Abalone Farmers Association of South Africa and the Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, has introduced the compulsory specification that will be used to formally regulate the live abalone which is prone to exploitation and poaching syndicates. This will put an end to the current self regulation which could harm the market.
