FDA approves first-line treatment for peripheral T-cell lymphoma under new review pilot

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration today expanded the approved use of Adcetris (brentuximab vedotin) injection in combination with chemotherapy for adult patients with certain types of peripheral T-cell lymphoma (PTCL). This is the first FDA approval for treatment of newly diagnosed PTCL, and the agency used a new review program to complete the approval more quickly.

Infant botulism cases prompt alert about honey pacifiers

The Texas Department of State Health Services is warning parents and other adults not to give babies pacifiers containing honey after four babies were treated for botulism in Texas. Each infant had been given a honey-containing pacifier purchased in Mexico.

Importers warned to consider the risks of bluetongue

Livestock importers are being urged to think carefully before importing animals and to avoid sourcing from areas known to be infected with bluetongue disease wherever possible. The call from the UFU’s membership comes after the virus was identified in Great Britain, flowing post-import testing, in animals for the third time in less than 12 months. All of the infected animals have been slaughtered and no compensation was paid to the owners.
