Waltham, MA – December 13, 2011 - (PressReleasePoint) - A recent survey conducted by Pyxis Mobile, provider of the only cross-device mobile application development platform designed to meet customers’ constantly changing needs, found that the mobile industry is still dealing with fragmentation. According to the survey, 48% employ a BlackBerry device for professional use, down from 55% last year, while 46% use the iPhone, up from 31% in 2010. Meanwhile, 36% of respondents prefer the iPhone for personal use, unchanged from last year, while 32% use a BlackBerry, down from 37% last year.
The survey also found that:
• A growing number of firms across various industries have an employee-facing app – 47%, which is up from 42% as identified in last year’s survey.
• Budget management concerns have continued to rise with 60% of survey takers citing this as the main challenge to the growth of their company’s mobile strategy, compared to 51% in 2010.
• About 63% of survey participants whose organization uses tablets say their firm supports the iPad, while 15% support the Android tablet and 6.5% support the BlackBerry Play Book.
“Our research validates what we’ve been hearing from our customers – the demand for enterprise mobility is strong and accelerating,” said Todd Christy, CTO and president, Pyxis Mobile. “Employees now expect tablet and smartphone access to critical business systems.”
Survey respondents included attendees at the Oracle Open World 2011 from various industries, including financial services, consumer goods, manufacturing, higher education, government, real estate, technology, and health and life sciences.
