VMworld Europe –
Oct. 13, 2010 –
Quest Software, Inc. (Nasdaq: QSFT) today announced expanded device support for Quest®
vWorkspacewith the introduction of vWorkspace connector software for the iPad and “Zero PCs.” By expanding device support and deployment options for vWorkspace, Quest gives businesses more ways to embrace the benefits of deploying virtual desktops with lower cost and greater mobility. vWorkspace, plus the entire Quest line of virtual server, desktop and private cloud solutions, are on display this week at VMworld Europe in the Bella Center, Oct. 12 – 14, in booths 21 and 22.
“By enhancing vWorkspace support for the growing number of computing devices now prevalent in business, Quest continues to deliver the cost savings key to driving desktop virtualization adoption,” said Simon Pearce, vice president and general manager, Quest Desktop Virtualization Group. “Quest is simplifying the introduction and use of iPads and other mobile devices, as well as extending the life of aging computers that allow IT departments to maximize value, especially those weighing the cost of PC upgrades for Windows 7.”
The vWorkspace Connector for Zero PCs extends the concept of a “zero client” to PC hardware, effectively enabling PCs to be used as single-purpose client devices that require zero administration and updates. The vWorkspace Connector for Zero PCs slashes administration costs by allowing PCs to be booted across the network, or from fixed media such as a DVD, accessing virtual desktops and applications without the need for any management of the local operating system or environment.
The vWorkspace Connector for Zero PCs further enables businesses to turn aging computers into “zero maintenance” thin clients, which can then run as hassle-free virtual desktops. Enterprises facing replacement of physical desktop computers as part of a Windows 7 refresh now can invest those funds in datacenter infrastructure for virtual Windows 7 desktops. By repurposing existing desktops as Zero PCs, businesses can extract greater value, simplify management and decrease overhead costs.
The vWorkspace Connector for iPads expands the benefits of vWorkspace to a broader set of users by providing support for the most popular dual work and personal mobile device in today’s workplace. Enabling desktop virtualization on the iPad also improves mobile user productivity by giving them greater desktop and application availability.
The vWorkspace Connector for Zero PCs is now available as a beta release from thevWorkspace Community. The vWorkspace Connector for iPad is in a trial phase with selected customers and partners, and will be available from the Apple App Store soon.
In addition to exhibiting at VMworld Europe, Quest will provide insights into current issues and trends impacting the virtualization industry:
