Rajgir Mahotsava to Woo Tourists with Bouquet of Culture and Modernity

Overwhelmed with the response of national and foreign tourists on its innovations in tourism sector, the Tourism Department of Bihar is pushing hard to put its tourist destinations prominently on global map. Rajgir Mahotsava-2011 is to witness connoisseurs of melodious gazals, legendary bollywood songs, folk dance, ethnic culture, wrestling, sports and traditions of ‘Blissful Bihar’ in a very new and innovative perspective.
“Bihar Government is committed to put Bihar prominently on national and global tourist map. We have taken up several innovations and development projects in tourist sector to provide the best possible facilities and enjoyment to international and national tourists,” said Shri Sunil Kumar Pintu, Minister for Tourism, Government of Bihar in a Press Conference in Patna. “This year Rajgir Rajgir Mahotsava is being organized at a grand level and we are confident that it will give new heighs to tourism in Bihar,” added the Minister. Mr Deepak Kumar, Principal Secretary of Department of Tourism and Mr D K Srivastava, Director cum Sp Secretary, Department of Tourism, Government of Bihar were also present on this occasion.
The mesmerizing performance of legendary bollywood singer Alka Yagnik, famous Gazal singer Roop Kumar Rathod and Sonali Rathod will create an ethereal atmosphere to electrify the tourists. On the other hand the Prince Dance Group, Ashok Chakradhar, Chetan Rana and folk artists are ready to make this annual mega-festival vibrant with their extraordinary performances in Rajgir, the capital of ancient Magadh, from 27th to 29th December, 2011.
 
 
The Tourism Minister informed that the Rajgir Mahotsava-2011 would be inaugurated by Chief Minister of Bihar Shri Nitish Kumar at 4.15 PM on Tuesday, 27th December, 2011. Deputy Chief of Bihar Shri Sushil Kumar Modi, Tourism Minister Shri Sunil Kumar Pintu, Shri Narendra Narayan Yadav, Minister for Law, Planning and Development, Shri Satyadeo Narayan Arya, Minister of Mines and Geology, Government of Bihar, MLAs, MPs, Government Officers and eminent personalities will also attend the function.
The innovations in tourism sector and modern facilities by department of tourism, Government of Bihar is confident of a huge turnout of tourists in Rajgir Mahotsava-2011. Bihar Tourism is already making strides in growing tourism sector is evident with the fact that over 3.77 lakh foreign tourist have already visited Bihar by September 2011. The increasing importance of Bihar as global tourist destination was also witnessed by 4.93 lakhs foreign tourists in calendar year 2010. 
The tourists would be offered royal rides on the recently inaugurated Baghis at Rajgir. In addition to this, the three days mega event will showcase several cultural aspects of Bihar like Palki Sajja, Tanga Sajja, Kisan Shree Mela, Gram Shree Mela, Sarva Dharma Maglacharan, Shankhanaad, Mahila Mahotsava, wrestling along with Para Sailing, Town Lighting, sports etc.
Apart from the Rajgir Mahotsava-2011 the tourists can also enjoy tourist destinations related to the life of Buddha, Akhara of ancient King Jarasandh and numerous exquisite temples of Jains, Buddhists and Hindus. Rajgir is also famous for its warm water ponds which are supposed to contain some medicinal properties that cure many skin diseases.  Added attractions of Rajgir is the rope way which takes you uphill to the Shanti Stupa and Monasteries built by the Japanese devotees on the top of the Ratnagiri Hills.
Earlier, Rajgir Mahotsava has witnessed the performances of the great artists like Sonal Man Singh, Hema Malini, Sanyukta Panigrahi, Nalini-Kamalini, Swapna Sundari, Shovna Narayan, Madhukar Anand, Madhumita Roy, Amita Dutta, Mukund Nayak, Madhavi Mudgal, Leela Samson and Anand Shankar.
