RAVN Systems, experts in Enterprise Search, Unstructured Big Data analytics and Knowledge Management solutions, announced today that DLA Piper, a leading global legal practice, has achieved continued success with RAVN Manage in transforming the management of their Search Infrastructure.

DLA Piper uses an HP Autonomy IDOL engine to power and provide the indexing and search technology for locating their DMS content. The operational management of the system had been entirely manual and often reactive, through the use of internal resources, which often became a time consuming and complex task. It also meant that some issues could go unnoticed until manual checks had been performed.

DLA Piper deployed the RAVN Manage solution in August 2012 and have since benefited from several upgrades. RAVN Manage now monitors all components of their global search infrastructure within HP Autonomy iManage, from ingestion right through to search queries. The behavior of each component that is checked is based on learned experience of how each should respond, rather than reliance on the service status, which may report services as ‘running’, when they have actually failed silently.

RAVN Manage has allowed DLA Piper to effectively monitor their Search environment, meaning they no longer have to manually check the system is running correctly, saving them time, effort, infrastructure cost and resource. It also delivers confidence in the DMS system.

RAVN Manage has removed the possibility of human errors when checking the platform. Service variables are being tracked and recorded, statistics are gathered and log output from critical components is constantly checked. If problems are detected and reported by RAVN Manage, the administrator can take action using the product’s consolidated dashboard, making it unnecessary to have a massive amount of remote connections open to DLA Piper’s global server estate.

Although the solution is centralized, the interface and provision of zoned views allows DLA Piper employees globally to share visibility in to the architecture and status of the system.
