LOS ANGELES— Today, Secretary of Homeland Security Jeh Johnson traveled to Los Angeles where he met with Department of Homeland Security personnel, viewed Transportation Security Administration (TSA) security operations as well as the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Federal Inspection Facility at Los Angeles International Airport.

While he was at Los Angeles International Airport, Secretary Johnson highlighted the Department’s efforts every day to secure and expedite legal travel and trade, while screening for and preventing threats and hazards from entering our country. Last year at Los Angeles International Airport, almost 2,500 TSA personnel screened roughly 30 million passengers, and 23 million bags through the inline systems and 30 stand-alone baggage zones while CBP officers processed about 100 international flights and 22,000 international travelers each day at the Tom Bradley International Terminal.

Later, Secretary Johnson traveled to the Joint Regional Intelligence Center in Los Angeles and participated in a roundtable discussion with law enforcement partners. During the roundtable, Secretary Johnson reiterated the critical relationship that DHS has with state and local law enforcement officials to address common security threats ranging from counterterrorism to cybersecurity, and cooperation on criminal investigations—to ensure a safer, more secure, and more resilient homeland. He also underscored the Department’s emphasis on sharing information regarding terrorism and other threats to the homeland so that it can be incorporated into state and local community-based efforts to prevent violence.

Tomorrow, Secretary Johnson will meet with Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti, tour port operations and meet with U.S. Coast Guard and CBP personnel at the Los Angeles/Long Beach Seaport.
