Launched in 2010, the Nissan LEAF is powered by an 80kW electric motor and 24kWh lithium-ion battery pack. It can travel approximately 100 miles on a single charge, and fuel consumption is as great as 106 in the city and 92 on the highway. The LEAF doesn't sacrifice features for efficiency either, standard features for the 2012 model include a navigation system, six-speaker audio system with CD/USB/AUX and satellite radio, Bluetooth phone system, Intelligent keyless entry, push button start, automatic climate control, 60/40 folding rear seats, heated front and rear seats, heated steering wheel, battery warmer, and cruise control. The only thing it’s missing is a tailpipe! Terrific safety features are included as standard also, gleaning the LEAF a 5-star overall safety rating with six airbags, active front head restraints, stability and traction control, security system and front belt pretensioners. LED head and taillights provide safe lighting as well as using less power than regular incandescent bulbs.  Since its launch a little over a year ago, about 10,000 Nissan LEAFs have been sold in the United States and over 21,000 have been sold worldwide.
