The Confucius Institute at Portland State University is an authorized testing center in Oregon for the Hanban Chinese Language Proficiency Exams that take place several times throughout the year.  


The HSK (Hanyu Shuiping Kaoshi) is an international standardized test to assess the Chinese language proficiency of non-native speakers engaged in daily life and social activities. The HSK is required when applying to study in Chinese  universities.

The HSKK (Hanyu Shuiping Kouyu Kaoshi) is a Chinese Oral Proficiency Test to measure Chinese learners’ speaking skills at all levels.


The Confucius Institute at PSU (CI-PSU) is a cultural resource center and non-degree granting entity that promotes cultural exchange and cooperation between the U.S. and the People’s Republic of China.  Housed in Portland State's Office of International Affairs, the Confucius Institute at PSU (CI-PSU) was established in partnership with the  China National Office for Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language (HanBan) in 2007.
