Re-Inventing The Central Massachusetts Hard Rock Scene With Project 90
In a music scene that launched the careers of Aerosmith, Extreme and more recently Godsmack, local musicians Project 90 are looking back on the rock and roll of old and recreating a music scene that stands firm to it’s roots.
Los Angeles – 07-15-2010 (JoeDolanPR) – The recent 20th anniversary reunion of members from the Central Massachusetts rock act Jokerz Wylde has caused a stir in the local music scene. The sounds of the late 80’s and early 90’s radio market are seeping back into the club scene and selling out shows with fans both old and new. Front man Chris Strom and drummer Norm Arguin remember those days fondly and are working to show the music market that those days are still here. Their recent reuniting shined a light to on the fans that haven’t forgotten what it was like to get out and experience rock and roll.
Project 90, a new and original rock act are writing and recording new songs, lining up shows and proving that rock is anything but forgotten; it has just been overlooked. Working out of the small town of Uxbridge, MA, the band is following in the footsteps of what began just a few miles away in Hopedale, MA and became Aerosmith. Of course there is no guarantee that a minimalized music market is going to march in to a small town club and discover up and coming talent, but for club goers, this is a refreshing addition to the availability of shows to chose from on a Friday night.
While bands like Hudson’s Extreme were performing throughout Massachusetts and Rhode Island in the mid 80’s, Strom’s former acts were appearing alongside on stages performing original songs with groups like Skintite and All In The Alley. Hard rocking, radio-ready originals were abound, but like many acts of the era, they too got swept under the rug as time wore on. “It’s time,” the band said, “that we get back on the rockin’ horse. Music fans are still there, if anything, radio has failed them. We’re out to bring it back hard!”
With half-a-dozen originals written toward a new album, the group Project 90 is lining up shows and bringing their performance to the stage. The set lists feature new songs as well as songs that made the band members local household names over a decade ago. If history has proven anything, it’s that timing is everything and this is proving to be that time. The shows are doing more than selling, they’re selling out!
On August 21st, 2010, Project 90 will take the stage at the Woonsocket, Rhode Island Summer Festival in River Island Park. This is the home-town stomping ground of where the band’s roots lay and local rock fanatics are lining up to hear it come back.
