Duke Chapel Dean Luke Powery discusses responses to disaster with Rabbi Raachel Jurovics
Durham, NC - A discussion that explores experiences of catastrophe, and responses to it, in both African-American and Jewish histories will occur March 31 at Duke University.
The conversation between the Rev. Luke Powery, dean of Duke Chapel, and Rabbi Raachel Jurovics of Yavneh, a Jewish renewal community in Raleigh, will be moderated by WUNC Radio's Frank Stasio.
The event begins at 7 p.m. in the Duke Divinity School's Goodson Chapel and is free and open to the public.
"Regardless of ethnic and religious traditions, for those facing death-dealing devastations, this conversation can be a reminder that death and trauma do not have the last word in life," Powery said. "Hope still rises out of the ashes of our human existence."
