While there may be Civil War reenactments throughout the state, none compare to the authenticity presented at the Las Marisposas Civil War Days, taking place April 17th and 18th in Mariposa, CA. Each year, the Las Mariposas Civil War Days reenactment takes place on more than 50 acres of Longs Mariposa Ranch. With rolling hills that are tree studded with every variety of Oak trees imaginable, this location has been flatteringly hailed by past participants as the best west coast site most resembling any actual historical battlefield.

Relive History at Las Mariposas Civil War Days
April 16th through 18th in Mariposa

MARIPOSA, Calif. (March 15, 2010)—While there may be Civil War reenactments throughout the state, none compare to the authenticity presented at the Las Marisposas Civil War Days, taking place April 17th and 18th in Mariposa, Calif.

Produced by the Las Marisposas Civil War Group in cooperation with The American Civil War Association (A.C.W.A.), the event proudly honors Civil War figure John C. Fremont, his homestead, and the location of his historical Las Mariposas Land Grant. A fantastic event for the entire family, these two days are full of true-to-life events and displays, and live battles.

“This is an educational and fun event that allows you to step back in history in an open, natural outdoor setting that is unsurpassed by any other Civil War reenactment,” said Jeffrey Hentz, executive director, Yosemite/Mariposa County Tourism Bureau. “This event is sure to impress even the most seasoned history and Civil War enthusiast; it’s a great way to spend time with friends and family.”

Friday, April 16th, is a complete day dedicated to educational programs for registered students, teachers, and schools. Taking place from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., the event has draws students and teachers traveling all the way from Oregon, Colorado, Northern and Southern California, Arizona, and Nevada. Private schools, home schools, charter schools, and public schools are all encouraged to come, and the day is at NO COST to these attendees. The students and teachers visit a variety of educational stations with presentations given on specific Civil War topics. Between the morning and afternoon rotations, the students eat their lunch and watch a skirmish take place right before their eyes.

Saturday and Sunday, April 17 and 18, contain the main programs this year and are already scheduled to be bigger and better than before. Since the event has such an incredible venue on the Longs’ Mariposa Ranch, the only limit to the reenactors program is their imagination. Added for the first time this year, is a TWILIGHT BATTLE, on Saturday. April 17 activities begin at 9.a.m and end at 7:30 p.m. and April 18 activities begin at 9 a.m. and end at 4 p.m. All Civil War reenactment events take place at Longs Mariposa Ranch. Check the website for an up to date schedule of events (www.thecivilwardays.com).

Hungry or thirsty? There are an abundance of delicious and affordable food and refreshments for attendees on site (Sorry: Ice Chests are prohibited). In addition, there will be numerous Sutlers (merchants) selling Civil War memorabilia and other period correct merchandise from clothing to leather goods, and toys to trinkets. Please leave the pets at home.

Sponsored by Sierra Telephone with additional support from local businesses and service groups, the Las Mariposas Civil War Days is produced by the Las Mariposas Civil War Group (L.M.C.W.G.) and presented by the American Civil War Association (A.C.W.A.) and others members of PACWR (Pacific Area Civil War Reenactor). This day has proven to be a fun experience overwhelmingly popular with all parties, for its depth of education, organization, and overall informational value.

Tickets are available at the gate and are only $5.00 per person. For more information, visit https://thecivilwardays.com.
