Rep. John Dingell Announces Retirement

Washington, D.C. - Today, Rep. John Dingell (MI) announced his plans to retire.  First elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 1955, Rep. Dingell is the longest serving member of Congress.


Sierra Club Executive Director Michael Brune issued the following statement in response:


“The Sierra Club and our 2.4 million members and supporters thank Rep. Dingell for his years of service in the United States Congress and to the American people.  In his 29 terms, Rep. Dingell has helped shape critical clean air, clean water, and energy policies, while exemplifying the meaning of statesmanship.”
