The Squamish Triathlon is proud to announce the recipients of the Robert W. McIntosh Memorial Scholarship for 2009. This year’s winners are Eden Imbeau from Squamish and Jordan Platz from Howe Sound Secondary.

Race director Peter Hotston unveiled the names of the winners and said “Congratulations to these two highly qualified recipients of the award. This year they came from very strong group of applicants.” Both students will be at the 12th Annual Squamish Triathlon on July 5th to participate in the awards ceremony.

Jordan Platz was named Valedictorian and is a member of the soccer team. “I’m deeply honoured to be receiving the scholarship,” he says. “When I found out I was very surprised. The money will definitely help with school.”

The 12th annual Squamish Triathlon is presented by Squamish Savings and will take place on July 5th, 2009 at 9:30am with the swim at Alice Lake, then across Squamish for the bike and run legs. The 1500-meter swim course is already set up for those looking to practice their strokes.

Registration is still open for the triathlon this year, and online registrants who sign up before Thursday June 2nd will be entered into a draw to win their registration free of charge. Along with cash prizing for top finishers, a round-trip Whistler Mountaineer prize will also be given away randomly to one of the participants. “There are some fantastic community partners here in Squamish” says committee member Leigh Grigg, “We’ve had a great response from the event sponsors this year, and we’re keeping our fingers crossed for another sellout.”

The scholarship fund was created in honour of late local triathlete Bob McIntosh to assist Squamish students who demonstrate abilities in academics, athletics and citizenship.
