Idox Group, a leading specialist supplier of software solutions and services, has implemented its Uniform Building Control, Planning and Public Access modules for Rochdale Metropolitan Borough Council.

The new system enables more efficient collaborative working with eight other local authorities in Greater Manchester already using Idox Uniform. It also integrates with the council's Hyland Software OnBase Enterprise Content Management (ECM) system.

Replacing a Swift DataPro system, the user-friendly software is backed by a five-year maintenance and support contract phased to avoid up-front capital costs. By using Idox consultancy and data services, Rochdale was able to migrate easily from its old applications and introduce new functionality in a short time.

"We had a very good relationship with Idox during the implementation phase which was done to time and within the project plan," said Mark Robinson, Head of Planning with Rochdale Metropolitan Borough Council."Idox Uniform will allow us to do more joined-up working with other authorities in Greater Manchester. There's also a seamless link between public access, our back office and the OnBase document management system. Idox Uniform has delivered ongoing process savings for us as well as enhanced public access."

"Rochdale found it an easy and cost-effective proposition to migrate to Uniform. Apart from providing user-friendly applications and responsive support, Idox also integrated Uniform with the council's OnBase ECM system for public access to documents via the council's website," said Andrew Riley, Managing Director of Public Sector Software, Idox Group. "Rochdale is now the ninth local authority out of 10 in the Association of Greater Manchester Authorities to use Idox public sector software for planning and building control."

Idox Uniform (building control, planning and public access modules) replaced a Swift DataPro system. The migration work involved project management, data and spatial data transfer, configuration, integration, module testing and user training courses. The Idox service desk then assisted users with queries about setting up new document templates and reports for planning and building control.

The seamless integration between Idox Uniform and the Hyland Software OnBase ECM system for planning documents will soon be extended to building control in a future implementation phase. It has already enabled the council to end costly double-scanning of planning documents for public web access and long-term archiving. Uniform Public Access is providing real-time tailored information to councillors, local residents and others while matching the look and feel of the council's website.
