Ropers Majeski Kohn & Bentley's Diversity Efforts Honored by San Mateo County Bar Association
Ropers Majeski Kohn & Bentley Receives San Mateo County Bar Association Diversity Award for Efforts to Advance Diversity in the Legal Profession
Redwood City, CA, United States., January 28, 2013 - (PressReleasePoint) - Ropers Majeski Kohn & Bentley, P.C. (RMKB) was selected by the San Mateo County Bar Association (SMCBA) for its Diversity Award, an annual honor that recognizes a firm's dedicated efforts to advance diversity in the legal profession.
"We are deeply honored by the SMCBA’s recognition of our diversity efforts. Our commitment to supporting myriad initiatives – from youth organizations, to college financial support, to business and legal programs working to encourage and promote equality in the profession – has been at the forefront of our values,” said RMKB Managing Partner Rick Wilson.
RMKB promotes a diverse, inclusive work environment, understanding that diversity creates a productive workplace, is a social responsibility and creates value for its clients who appreciate and expect their legal team to reflect the diversity of their own organizations and communities. With leadership and support from its Diversity Committee, the firm offers a wide range of support, both in volunteer time and financial resources, to help increase awareness of diversity-related concerns and finds ways to accomplish diversity-related goals. These include:
- Encouraging and financially supporting memberships and leadership roles in minority bar associations and committees;
- Annually sponsoring a holiday celebration for the elementary school students of St. Elizabeth Seton School of East Palo Alto, which is comprised of the multi-cultural and economically diverse population of East Palo Alto and its surrounding communities;
- Creating and organizing industry events celebrating diversity, including a 2011 reception honoring African American justices in California that featured speakers Chief Judge of the United States District Court for the Northern District of California James Ware and State Bar of California President Jon Streeter, and a 2012 reception honoring Asian Pacific Islander justices in California that featured speakers Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of California Tani Cantil-Sakauye and Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of California Justice Ming Chin; and
- Regularly donating time and money for its attorneys to participate in high school outreach programs, mentor “at risk” youths, and give presentations on the importance of diversity.
RMKB Partners Kristina Chung and Enrique Marinez have held leadership positions driving the firm’s diversity efforts and have been involved in the SMCBA’s Diversity Committee since its inception.
“One of my greatest passions is to help inspire and advance women and minorities in the legal and business professions,” said Chung. “I am grateful for my firm’s support and dedication, as well as to the SMCBA for taking an active role in encouraging and celebrating the diversity of our county’s community, and for providing programs to promote the profession at all levels – primary and secondary schools and law schools.”
