Blacksburg, VA. - The prestigious Royal Academy of Arts and Sciences of Barcelona has completed the implementation of Virtua SaaS with the Chamo Social OPAC to automate their library. The Archive and the Library of the Academy comprise a reference resource of great historic value, which spans almost three centuries. The library, with more than a hundred thousand volumes, is one of the most important libraries in the country for reference materials relating to the second half of the 18th Century. With the installation of Virtua the Royal Academy has achieved their goal of making their OPAC visible and accessible.

Fina Fortuny, Library Director of the Academy, noted; “We chose Virtua because it is a standards-based system that will enable us to exchange records with other libraries. We were also able to select which parts we were interested using, allowing us to get exactly what we needed while staying within our budget. Virtua is also installed in other libraries with similar characteristics, which gives us confidence and reliability on the continuity of the service." The installation of Virtua is the first automated catalog for the Royal Academy, though the Royal Academy utilizes the Union Catalog of Catalonia (CCUC) for their cataloging needs.

“All of us at VTLS are happy with the decision of the Reial Acadèmia de les Arts i les Ciències de Barcelona to utilize Virtua for its library automation needs,” Jack Bazuzi, Managing Director of VTLS Europe S.L. “We are truly honored with our association with this prestigious institution of scholarship and research.”
