Stoke-on-Trent, UK, October 01, 2010 (PressReleasePoint) -- One of the most anticipated Ryder Cup’s in the history of the game gets underway today and Wales is the perfect country for golf. With its rolling green hills and craggy links land, it’s almost like a smaller version of Scotland - the undoubted home of golf. With a selection of fine golf courses within its borders, few would perhaps have guessed that Celtic Manor would be the Welsh showpiece chosen as the venue for the 2010 Ryder Cup.

The course was not actually built when Wales was selected to host the tournament, and in fact the ‘Twenty Ten’ course, as it has become known, is just three years old. The concept of the resort is the brainchild of billionaire owner Sir Terry Matthews, who was in fact born in the original Celtic Manor Hotel and is believed to have invested over £16 million into the ‘Twenty Ten’ course and clubhouse alone.

Some purists have claimed that the course is too immature to be used to stage this most prestigious of tournaments, however much of the course as we see it today has made use of the old Wentwood Hills course, including greens which are actually more like 15 years old. The ‘Twenty Ten’ course is the first in Ryder Cup history to be purpose built for the event.

European captain Colin Montgomerie is believed to have meticulously planned the setup of the course to suit the games of his leading stars such as Lee Westwood and has made several reconnaissance missions down to Newport in order to fulfil his exacting requirements. This has been reflected in the Ryder Cup betting odds, in which Europe are favourites to regain the title. This is being reflected by many online betting sites such as Bet365 and Ladbrokes. Other sign up bonus companies are also offering attractive odds on Europe such as Bonusesnow.

The course itself is a good mix of British and European style holes, with the opening holes having a very ‘links’ feel and then developing into a lake-lined continental style golf course. With some particularly nasty rough and water making an appearance on half of the holes, it is sure to provide some moments of magic and intrigue come October 1st.

What makes this course perfect for match play situation is the atmosphere that is likely to be generated in the amphitheatre set up of the final three holes. As shown at the ‘K Club’, the roar of the crowd can give the players that extra bit of adrenalin. One thing that is for certain is that the Welsh are passionate about their golf and will be doing their level best to make certain that the Ryder Cup returns ‘home’ on October 3rd.
