Sandy Tippett Brings the Fascinating Landscapes of the Australian North-West to NYC
NEW YORK, NY – Chelsea’s Agora Gallery will feature the original work of Australian artist Sandy Tippett in Sensorial Perspectives
New York, NY, USA, February 27, 2013 - (PressReleasePoint) - Sandy Tippett draws inspiration from the spectacular landscapes that have surrounded her throughout her life, from the rich East African savannah where she was born and raised, to the arid deserts of Western Australia where she now lives. The similarities between these formative environments manifest themselves in her mixed media paintings, which often incorporate sand to add texture to her oils, acrylics and gold leaf. The works are characterized by broad, open vistas, where deep red expanses — and, sometimes, comparatively miniscule tress — sit beneath enormous skies of vivid azure, ominous gray-blue, and pale crepuscular light.
Often these plains appear to be on fire, the bright crimson of their dry hills seeming to shimmer in the beaming Australian sunlight that Tippett evokes so capably. These elemental regions verge on abstraction in her works, which at times evoke Color Field paintings with the purity of their geometry. But Tippett pits endlessly varied textures against these stark lines, creating rich clouds and hills in mixed media that return dimensionality to her primordial landscapes.
