On March 26, Sapienza Università Editrice (Sapienza Editions) will present a new book entitled “Antonio Ruberti” by Claudio Gori. The book, which inaugurates a new series dedicated to renowned Sapienza educators, reviews Antonio Ruberti’s prestigious academic and political commitment.
Speakers at the presentation will include Sapienza Rector Luigi Frati, Luciano Violante, Paolo Galluzzi, Luigia Carlucci Aiello, Alberto Marchetti Spaccamela and the author, Claudio Gori Giorgi.
Prof. Ruberti became one of the first three Professors of Automatic Control at the Sapienza Faculty of Engineering in 1964. He also served as Faculty Dean and later as Rector of Sapienza University for 11 years. His scientific interests in the field of system and control were very wide. In particular, he was one of the early pioneers of geometric control methods for nonlinear systems.
In 1987, Prof. Ruberti embarked on a political career first as Minister for Scientific and Technological Research and then as Minister for University and Research. Subsequently, Ruberti also served as EU Commissioner for Science, Education and Research and Development.
During the course of his long career, Prof. Ruberti received many important international awards, including the Legion d’honneur and the European Leonardo Award. He was also appointed as a Fellow at the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers and received a honoris causa degree in Applied Science from the Catholic University of Leuven.
