ScottishPower is top ranked energy company in CRC Energy Efficiency Scheme Performance League Table
9 November 2011
ScottishPower has achieved the highest placing of UK energy companies* in the first ever published CRC (Carbon Reduction Commitment) Energy Efficiency Scheme Performance League Table.
The CRC Energy Efficiency Scheme came into force in April 2010 and aims to significantly reduce UK carbon emissions not covered by other pieces of legislation. It is a mandatory carbon emissions reporting and pricing scheme that covers all organisations using more than 6,000MWh per year of electricity.

Participants in the CRC are required to measure and report their energy consumption and the related carbon emissions annually, following a specific set of measurement rules. ScottishPower appeared in the published league table as the 27th placed company out of over 2100 organisations covering a variety of sectors including major supermarkets, shops, hospitals, government departments and councils.
Gordon McGregor, Energy and Environment Director at ScottishPower, said: “The CRC scheme will have a positive impact on helping organisations to become more energy efficient. We have installed voluntary automated meter readings at a significant number of our sites to enable us to improve our energy management and we were the first major energy company in the UK to obtain the Carbon Trust Standard for all of our UK operations. We are encouraged to see that these measures have helped us to achieve a good score in the performance league table.
“There are always further improvements that can be made and we will continue to work hard to reduce our carbon footprint as an organisation.”
