Sussex’s Second Eleven fought back on Day Two of their three-day Championship match with Essex at Southend, although they only lead their hosts by a slender margin of 60 runs.
As Essex resumed on 326 for 6 it was skipper Will Beer (pictured) who made further inroads into the home line-up, taking four wickets to bowl the hosts out for 390, which represented a lead of 230. Beer finished with figures of 4 for 70 whilst Ashar Zaidi took 4 for 71.
And when Sussex took to the crease once more they were lead by trialist Craig Cachopa who hit a century in the middle-order. He was well supported by Zaidi who made 92 but the rest of the batsmen failed to build on starts and Sussex ended the day 290 for 8, 60 runs ahead of Essex.
