Sussex’s Second Eleven held on for a draw in their three-day Championship match with Kent at Preston Nomads CC yesterday.

After beginning the day 165 runs ahead of Sussex, the visitors batted on to reach 211 for 4 with Sam Northeast hitting his second century of the match. Ashar Zaidi (pictured) claimed three wickets for Sussex to follow-up his ton with the bat earlier in the game, and Chris Liddle claimed the other scalp.

This set Sussex a target of 316 to win but despite knocks of 49 from both Matt Machan and Zaidi, the hosts lost wickets at regular intervals. However they did manage to hold on for a draw having lost nine wickets, with final pair Matthew Hobden and Liddle defying the Kent attack, for which Imran Quyyam took 5 for 37. There was also fantastic rearguard action from Phil Salt and Will Beer.
