Sussex’s Second Eleven have qualified for the semi-finals of the 2nd XI Trophy 50-over competition following their 98 run victory over Gloucestershire at The BrightonandHoveJobs.com County Ground, Hove.
Yesterday’s game was reduced to a 42-over per side match due to heavy showers in the late morning however when play did begin, Gloucestershire won the toss and elected to field first.
Sussex went on to make 233 for 7 from their allotted overs, as Fynn Hudson-Prentice capped an impressive week for the Second Eleven hitting 85 from 84 balls, which followed up his 89, as well as a glut of wickets, against the same opponents during the Championship match. Opener Tom Haines had earlier made 43 and Leo Cammish (21) also chipped in.
And it took the hosts less than 28 overs to dismiss their visitors as Gloucestershire tumbled to 135 all out. Ashar Zaidi (pictured) was the pick of the bowlers for Sussex, taking 3 for 19 whilst seamer Abi Sakande claimed 3 for 25. There were also wickets for Elliot Hooper (2 for 28), George Garton (1 for 31) and Sam Grant (1 for 17).
