VALHALLA, N.Y., October 19, 2017—Last month, Hurricane Maria ravaged the island of Puerto Rico, leaving residents without power, food, water or medical supplies. Senator Terrence Murphy saw the plight of the people of Puerto Rico and answered the call for help, creating "Operation Aid Puerto Rico," a drive to provide residents of with critically needed supplies. On Friday, October 13, Senator Murphy successfully led "Strike Force 40" a team of health care professionals to Puerto Rico, bringing desperately needed supplies and medical aid to the island.

"The hurricane left Puerto Rico devastated. After helping our neighbors in Texas and Florida, we came together to lend a hand to people trying to put their lives back together," said Senator Murphy. "There was no comfortable shelter, no electricity, and what aid was promised had yet to be delivered to the people who need it the most. Working with the leadership at New York Medical College's Center of Excellence, we decided it was time to go there in person to help and assembled a group of experts in disaster medicine. We wanted to let the people of Puerto Rico know that New York has their back."
