Jesse Sergent continued his strong form, finishing second on the penultimate stage of the Tour of Austria today.

Sergent, who won the stage five after a solo break, finished second in the individual time trial today.

He finished just 16 seconds behind Trek Factory teammate Kristof Vanderwalle, the Dutch nation al time trial champion, averaging close to 52kph over the mostly flat 24.10km course.

The New Zealander, who is now in a share of fifth place in the battle for the sprint jersey, continued his outstanding form ahead of the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

“The effort I made the other day was in the back of my mind but for time trials the plan is simply to go all-in. I asked this morning to not give me any time splits. At the end of the day it’s a time trial and you are really just racing yourself,” Sergent said.

The tour finishes tomorrow, before Sergent then prepares for the Commonwealth Games with the time trial on 31 July and road race on 3 August.
