Seventh Patent Awarded for Network Foundation Technologies’ Online Broadcasting Technology
Latest in Series of Patents Received for Revolutionary Broadcasting Model
Ruston, LA November 17, 2010-Network Foundation Technologies (NiFTy) has received an Issue of Notification from the U.S. Patent Office for its latest patent (#7,843,855, ‘System and Method for Broadcasting Content to Nodes on Computer Networks’). This patent is the seventh and latest in a series of patents issued to date, with an additional eighth patent in the process of being issued, and six more patents pending. These patents protect NiFTy’s innovative online distributed broadcasting technology.
NiFTy’s technology utilizes the shared bandwidth of the viewers watching a broadcast to help distribute the broadcast content amongst themselves. This innovative approach to online broadcasting dramatically reduces the costs of such broadcasts (60% reduction and higher) enabling larger online audiences to be reached, while ensuring excellent quality of service.
NiFTy’s original patent, which forms the foundation of the company’s online broadcasting portfolio, was filled in September 2001 and issued in April 2006, demonstrating a decade-long commitment to innovation in the online broadcasting industry.
“Our goal at NiFTy has been to develop great technology, which also addresses a critical need in the emerging online industry,” said Dr. Mike O’Neal, NiFTy’s Founder, Chief Scientist and first named inventor on all of the patents. “The cost of traditional CDN (Content Delivery Network) technology used by virtually all other online broadcasters today is prohibitively expensive for both very small and very large broadcasts. The result is that small customers are frequently unable to afford online broadcasting at all, while large customers must often limit the size of their viewing audience in order to manage costs. NiFTy’s technology, coupled with its range of broadcasting services, provides an affordable platform, making possible for the first time a viable Free-For-View, ad supported broadcasting model.”
NiFTy provides complete end-to-end online broadcasting services, specializing in LIVE long-play sports content, beginning with its patented distributed broadcasting technology, custom branded applications, hosting and distribution, ad insertion, advertising marketing and sales services, On Demand viewing and end-user customer support. NiFTy customers include the Arena Football League, Professional Bull Riders, and most recently, developing an iPhone/iPad compatible video solution for the Dallas Cowboys.
