Worldwide pop phenomenon Shawn Mendes will be celebrated as the Songwriter of the Year at the 29th annual SOCAN Awards, to be held June 18, 2018, in downtown Toronto.

On June 7, Mendes was named the biggest artist on Apple Music so far this year, thanks to such irresistibly alluring songs as “In My Blood,” “Youth,” Lost in Japan,” and “Where Were You in the Morning?,” which have helped him earn more than one-billion collective streams.

On June 4, the 19-year-old singer-songwriter’s third album, Shawn Mendes, debuted at the top of the Billboard 200 charts, making it the third time that he’s accomplished the feat. It also makes him the third-youngest solo artist ever to achieve three No. 1 albums, according to Billboard.

As of this writing, Mendes has just completed a week-long residency on The Late Late Show with James Corden in the U.S., and will be playing music festivals there throughout the Summer, before embarking on an international arena tour in the Spring of 2019.

Joining Mendes in Songwriter of the Year honours is Frank Dukes (a.k.a. Adam Feeney), as previously announced by SOCAN. Frank Dukes has created beats, co-produced songs, and co-written with some of the biggest artists in the music industry, including Rihanna, Kanye West, Post Malone, Common, Lorde, and Usher. This year alone, he’s already worked with The Weeknd, Kendrick Lamar, Cardi B, and Camilla Cabello.

SOCAN is pleased and proud to congratulate Shawn Mendes and Frank Dukes on their great accomplishments as music creators, and we look forward to celebrating their profound success at the 2018 SOCAN Awards on the evening of June 18 in Toronto.
