Ladies, can you imagine taking the helm of a 58’ Yacht and expertly perform docking maneuvers with confidence in a matter of only a few hours? That is exactly what happens each spring when Galati Yacht Sales of Destin, FL, provides its “Ladies at the Helm” training. The docking lessons are taught by Captain Matt Condon, a life-long boater and President of the Galati affiliate Signature Yacht Shares, a company specialized in selling and managing fractional ownership of yachts.

“After welcoming the unsuspecting ladies aboard, I immediately surprise them when I say from this moment forward you will be 100% responsible for driving the boat” said Captain Matt. “Trepidation is the word I would use to describe the looks I get, something akin to the deer in the headlights.”

The ladies catch on quickly as the captain shows them his tricks for easy boat handling. He starts all lessons with his first rule: “Act like a captain, so when you smash into the dock, act as if you intended to do it! Confidence is the key. And, no yelling!” Captain Matt tells them to use clear, crisp commands. When aboard your own boat, be sure to praise your husbands when they do a good job tying the lines.

The ladies seemed amazed at how easy it can be to dock a large yacht. The captain explained that his training is based on understanding how the vessel will react with each control input. And, as soon as they learn intuitively how the boat moves left and right, it is as easy as pie. Wind and current are no match for the confident lady captains as they zig and zag down the marina fairway using the engines to direct the boat.

Capt. Matt believes that it is important that both spouses know how to command the yacht. It provides an extra margin of safety and an improved boating experience. “At Galati Yacht Sales and Signature Yacht Shares, our customers expect a better boating experience. The “Ladies at the Helm” training is a fun way we try to exceed those expectations.”

Galati Yacht Sales’ “Ladies at the Helm” is scheduled for May 5, 2010. Contact Jennifer Galati for more information at (850) 654-1575 or Captain Matt Condon, Signature Yacht Shares, (850) 259-9900. www.signatureyachtshares.com
