Consumers for Health Choice have launched a campaign that aims to prevent proposed changes being made to the UK vitamins and supplements industry through European legislation.

Guernsey, United Kingdom, February 28, 2013 - (PressReleasePoint) -

Simply Supplements have backed a campaign by Consumers for Health Choice calling on the government to prevent vitamin and supplement products being made weaker or unavailable under new European legislation.

The ‘Save Our Supplements’ campaign provides a voice for those who are opposed to the changes proposed in the European Union Foods Supplements Directive, which aims to set maximum permitted dose levels (MPLs) for vitamins and supplements. These levels are anticipated to be in line with France and Germany, which are much lower than the maximum levels permitted in the United Kingdom.

Save Our Supplements aims to aims to challenge the proposals by suggesting that consumers should be able to decide for themselves what supplements they buy and use. The restrictions proposed will effectively mean that many vitamins and supplements are banned from sale in the UK, despite their popularity with millions of customers who have used them for decades with no obvious harmful effects.

Simply Supplements Marketing Executive Suzanne Hopkins said: “We believe that customers should have a choice. Under the EU directive, this choice would be taken away. We are firmly behind the campaign to prevent the changes, because we feel that they would deny our customers the basic right of choice.”

The campaign has the support of dozens of celebrities, including the likes of Sir Paul McCartney and Sir Elton John who have lobbied for UK market freedom around supplement dosage. Famous names from the world of sport also feature on the petition.

The petition has been signed by more than 275,000 people, and continues to gather pace. To discuss the Save Our Supplements campaign and find out how you can get involved, head to the Simply Supplements Google+ page at: www.google.com/+simplysupplements
