Small Businesses Are Better Friends
Small companies today are funnier, more personal on Twitter and Facebook, and the best new friends on the block.
Palo Alto, California, United States., February 13, 2012 - (PressReleasePoint) - Red Oxygen, a small business mobile marketing SMS provider, is engaged in Twitter,
Google+, Facebook, and it occasionally sends emails to customers—which means, it collectively has more ways to communicate to users than a socially stunted teenager does with his or her friends.
Not only that, but the new social media and mobile marketing strategies being implemented by Red Oxygen and other small businesses are no longer solely updating customers about the benefits of products—the tweets and Facebook posts are starting to give companies a personality and friendly identities. Companies also send out business tips, special deals, jokes and more. Old friends from high school don’t even have that edge, has small business become the new best friend?
In 2011, over 50 percent of small businesses reported getting new customer sales as a result of social media marketing. Although social media is no longer a new marketing strategy, it gives companies the chance to reach out to public and give an impression in the same way an individual user would. “The benefits of following small business on Twitter are tremendous,” says Red Oxygen Marketing Manager Kassandra Macdade. “We’ve recently started reaching out to customers with a ‘Tips and Tricks’ campaign to give customers advise for implementing SMS mobile marketing campaigns and give us personality. One of our new ‘Tips and Tricks’ Tweets was about being personal through humor. So we’ll Tweet jokes about the tech industry next week.”
And what about the friend benefits? Currently Red Oxygen is offering a promotion to follow the company on Twitter or Facebook to receive discounts on 2012 SMS business plans. “When people get on Twitter, they don’t automatically think, ‘Oh, I’d like to friend my SMS company.’ Releasing promotions like our friend discount helps customers find us and stay up-to-date with new company information, tips and tricks, and other industry news,” says Macdade. Of course there’s always the personal satisfaction in supporting a small business through a rough economic recession by responding and providing customer feedback through social media platforms. “We’re still working on that,” laughs Macdade.
“A few weeks ago we posted a press release that was picked up by Google News,” says Macdade. “The first thing we did was Tweet about it to our followers. Those customers are the ones we wanted to celebrate with. In a way, our followers are part of the small business too.” Hopefully, as more people start finding companies on social media platforms, they’ll take the advise of small businesses and find new, and in some cases, even better friends on the company pages.
