[13 March 2013] After garnering a record-breaking number of awards and citations last year, Smart Communications, Inc. (Smart) is once again in the running for recognition at the prestigious Telecom Asia Awards.
Smart took home three awards last year – Best Emerging Market Carrier, Telecom CEO of the Year for Smart president and chief executive officer Napoleon Nazareno, and Best Community Telecom Project for the m-health program Secured Health Information and Network Exchange (SHINE). Telecom Asia said it was the first time that a single carrier bagged three awards in one night.
This year Smart is again nominated for Best Emerging Market Carrier, along with Malaysia’s Axiata and Indonesia’s XL Axiata and 3 Indonesia.
Smart was shortlisted once more for the Best Community Telecom Project for Project NOAH (Nationwide Operational Assessment of Hazards) Mobile, an Android application of the Department of Science and Technology’s website for disaster prevention and mitigation.
The Telecom Asia Awards are the region’s longest-running industry awards, which reward innovative and outstanding performance by Asian service providers and industry executives.
Final selection is made by a panel of industry experts, who will judge finalists on the basis of innovation, financial performance, technology, market leadership, and corporate governance. The awards will be presented on April 17 in Malaysia.
