Smart Communications, Inc. (Smart) has provided the Archdiocese of Cebu with a communication tool that would enable it to seamlessly and efficiently disseminate information and announcements within its community of parishes.
Smart has turned over the Infoboard service to the Archdiocese of Cebu during its monthly recollection held recently at the Betania Retreat House, Nivel Hills, Lahug in Cebu City.
The Infoboard is a web-based solution that offers various short messaging service (SMS) facilities with different functions and capabilities catering to the needs of a particular community. This communication tool will come in handy in disseminating information and announcements from the Chancery, the Archbishop to the entire archdiocese especially as they prepare for the Papal Visit in January 2015, and the 2016 International Eucharistic Congress in Cebu.
On a sustained basis, the Infoboard can also be used for broadcasting via SMS warning communication and advisories in times of disasters. The Infoboard has proven effective in helping other communities manage the impact of disasters through timely and relevant SMS updates that are then cascaded to residents in high-risk areas.
Smart has already organized a series of training programs on disaster preparedness participated in by members of the clergy as well as lay leaders so they can effectively lead their parishioners towards safety and reduce their vulnerabilities during disasters.
