SmartKem Limited, the developer of high performance, printable organic semiconductor materials for flexible electronics, today announced that it has signed materials testing agreements with a number of leading Asian companies in the chemical and electronics sectors.

United Kingdom, 17 January 2012 – (PressReleasePoint) SmartKem Limited, the developer of high performance, printable organic semiconductor materials for flexible electronics, today announced that it has signed materials testing agreements with a number of leading Asian companies in the chemical and electronics sectors. The agreements will see SmartKem’s innovative organic semiconductor inks tested for use in printable electronics applications for products such as state-of-the-art eReaders, Tablet PC’s, Smartphones and TV’s.

SmartKem’s products have been designed to enable the development of high performance flexible electronic devices, which can be cost effectively manufactured using low temperature printing and coating methods. The agreements demonstrate the strong market demand for these types of organic materials in the highly technological Asia region, and come following the recent appointment of SmartKem’s Japanese representative, Dr.Hirai, as well as agents in both Korea and Taiwan.

Since its inception in 2009, SmartKem has demonstrated remarkable technological progress, moving rapidly from the early R&D stage into the supply of innovative organic semiconductor inks, formulated to deliver improved performance and improved manufacture of printable transistor arrays and organic circuits. SmartKem’s continually improving organic semiconductor technology offers  a myriad of benefits over competing silicon semiconductors and delivers state-of-the-art electronic performance alongside high levels of stability. July 2011 saw SmartKem’s materials outperform its competitors and achieve performance “better than amorphous-silicon”, with impressive results in tests conducted by the UK’s National Printable Electronics Technology Centre (PETEC).

Steve Kelly, CEO of SmartKem comments, “Our partnerships with these corporations stems from our ability to establish materials with state-of-the-art electronic performance and stability. We are excited to be moving into the next phase of our journey. These agreements provide verification that our organic semiconductor materials have the potential to satisfy the needs of the display sector and provide us with an encouraging platform for further growth and investment.”

SmartKem’s niche expertise, coupled with a flexible business model has enabled it to respond quickly to the current needs of the electronics displays sector. The development of a roadmap of new organic semiconductor molecules and inks, supported by strong IP has allowed the company to take prime position and lead the way in adapting and providing innovations that meet the ever changing needs of a rapidly growing market in lightweight, rugged, flexible electronics.
