SME Education Foundation Awards $90,000 in Family and Director Scholarships

Dearborn, Mich. -  The SME Education Foundation celebrates manufacturing and continues to move boldly in its dedication to young people by opening doors and providing financial support. Five outstanding future engineers have been awarded $90,000 in Family and Directors' Scholarships.  
SME Education Foundation Family Scholarship Award recipients include:
Ben R. Brown, Lee's Summit, Mo., recipient of a $50,000, four-year SME Education Foundation Family Scholarship, will pursue a degree in mechanical engineering with an emphasis in manufacturing and a minor in materials science at Missouri University of Science and Technology, Rolla, Mo.; 
Alexandra M. Moulton , Royal Oak, Mich., recipient of a $10,000 one-year Family Scholarship, will begin her freshman year and pursue an engineering degree at the University of Notre Dame, Notre Dame, Ind.;
Michelle T. Barber, Novi, Mich., recipient of a $10,000 one year Family Scholarship will begin her freshman year and study engineering with a specialization in Manufacturing Process at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, Mich.  
SME Education Foundation Directors Scholarship Award recipients include:
Jonathan T. Reding , Collins, N.Y., received a $5,000. one-year award and will pursue a dual degree in Manufacturing & Mechanical Engineering Technology at the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT), Rochester, N.Y., and
Hillary M. Shoop , Lake Oswego, Ore. received a $5,000. one-year award and will study Industrial Engineering at Oregon State University, Corvallis, Ore.
About SME Education Directors Scholarship:  Scholarship applicants must be full-time graduates enrolled in a manufacturing or related degree program in the United States or Canada. Scholarship applicants must have completed a minimum of 30 college credit hours and be seeking a career in manufacturing, possess an overall minimum grade point average (GPA) of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale. The scholarship can only be used as a credit toward tuition, books, or fees.   
About SME Education Foundation Family Scholarship:   The SME Education Foundation seeks to support the children and grandchildren of SME members, and to encourage their pursuit of careers in manufacturing engineering and technology. GPA required (minimum overall): 3.0. Criteria: Applicants must be a child or grandchild of an SME member, either a graduating high school senior or undergraduate student with no more than 30 credit hours, and have a minimum SAT score of 1000, and/or ACT score of 21.
