SOCAN was pleased and proud to present a No. 1 Song Award to SOCAN members The Good Lovelies for their song “I See Gold,” which topped the CBC Radio 2 Top 20 chart on Jan. 18, 2018. The trio of Caroline Brooks, Kerri Ough, and Susan Passmore co-wrote the song with their SOCAN member colleague, professional songwriter Robyn Dell’Unto – who’ll be awarded at a later date.

SOCAN Director, A&R, Rodney Murphy, presented the award to The Good Lovelies following their three-song performance at a SOCAN Session in our Toronto offices on Jan. 31, 2018, where they were also congratulated by SOCAN CEO Eric Baptiste, and SOCAN Chief Membership and Business Development Officer Michael McCarty.

Introduced by SOCAN A&R Representative Melissa Cameron, the group started by showing off their excellent three-part harmonies on the a cappella song “The Heebie Jeebies,” then told the story of how they sang it to a border guard while crossing into the U.S., to prove they were professional singers. He was so impressed he had them sing it again for a colleague!

They followed with two songs form their brand new album Shapeshifters, “When We Were Young,” and the chart-topping single “I See Gold” – which they joked they’d be happy to license for a TV beer commercial, if anybody mistook the song title for “Icy Cold.” On a more serious note, Caroline Brooks offered a big thank you to the assembled SOCAN staff, “for supporting songwriters with the work you do. We wouldn’t be here if it weren’t for you.”

SOCAN congratulates The Good Lovelies on their latest success, and thanks them for their performance in our offices!
