You are invited to join Jakkie Cilliers, Executive Director of the Institute for Security Studies (ISS) and André Roux, a senior researcher in the Conflict Management and Peacebuilding Division, for an analysis of the 2014 Defence Review that was approved by cabinet on 17 March.

The briefing will take place telephonically at 10am on Thursday 26 June 2014.

A new ISS policy brief, titled The 2014 South African Defence Review - rebuilding from years of abuse, neglect and decay, will be published the day before the briefing, and will form the basis of the analysis.

Key discussions points include the state of the South African National Defence Force, the requests for budget increases and affordability, accountability structures within the Department of Defence, roles and functions and next steps. A question-and-answer session will be facilitated during the briefing.

This analysis forms part of the work of the ISS’s Conflict Management and Peacebuilding Division, which includes a focus on security sector reform.
