Stroll back in time with Southwest Travel Club to an era long forgotten. A time when life was slower, and those who searched for something to do, searched no further than their own downtown. A time of socials, small towns and entertainment in the form of live theatre.
From as far back as the mid 19th century, The historic Dock Street Station, once known as Planter's Hotel, was originally constructed in 1809 as a hotel. Used extensively by planters traveling through the area predominantly during horse-racing season, it is said that perhaps the well known Southern drink “Planter's Punch” may have even originated here. Guests of the original hotel walked through some of the same elements which still remain today including grand columns and recessed porch that make this building easily distinguished. Though not actually renovated into a theatre until the 1930's, the Dock Street Theatre has a rich theatre history dating back to as early is the mid 1800's when visiting theatre troupes would stay in the then hotel while performing at theatre's nearby.
