“Sports Legacy” Scheme Graduation Ceremony 2014

The Graduation Ceremony of “Sports Legacy” Scheme (the Scheme) implemented by the Hong Kong Athletes Career & Education Programme (HKACEP) under the auspices of the Sports Federation & Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China (the Federation), was successfully concluded on 2 July 2014 (today) at Southorn Stadium, Wanchai. Officiating guests included Mr. Victor HUI, GBS, JP, Vice President of the Federation and Chairman of HKACEP Committee, Ms. Marie-Christine LEE, Chairman of the Sports for Hope Foundation (the Foundation), Mr. PANG Chung, SBS, Hon. Secretary General of the Federation, Mr. Ronnie WONG, JP, Hon. Deputy Secretary General of the Federation and Vice Chairman of HKACEP Committee, Vice Presidents of the Federation, including Mr. Karl KWOK, MH, Mr. Tony YUE, MH, JP, Mr. PUI Kwan Kay, BBS, MH and Mr. Herman HU, BBS, JP and Principals of the 4 benefitted schools, including QESOSA Tong Kwok Wah Secondary School, Tin Shui Wai Heung To Middle School, Sheung Shui Government Secondary School and Wong Shiu Chi Secondary School, with the presence of 1,000 students and guests.  In recognition of students’ active participation and outstanding sports achievement in the past two years, certificates were presented to student athletes of the 4 benefitted schools in “Active Participation Award”, “Best Advancement Award” and “Outstanding Student Athlete Award” respectively, by way of encouraging their continued efforts in sports participation and injecting new blood to the sporting field.

 

Mr. Victor HUI thanked the Government, Bank of China (Hong Kong) Limited and Sports for Hope Foundation for their staunch supports to the Scheme and stated that “Under the systematic training supervised by our retired athlete coaches, student athletes’ talents have been identified and further developed in pursuing their dreams in sport”

 

Ms. Marie-Christine LEE was glad that the Scheme indeed provides students under insufficient resources in the remote areas a holistic development through different sports specific training which was in line with the belief of the Foundation.

 

Introduction of “Sports Legacy” Scheme

The “Sports Legacy” Scheme (the Scheme) is an interactive platform for retired athletes and students to pursue their dreams in sports. Hong Kong Athletes Career and Education Programme (HKACEP), under the auspices of the Sports Federation & Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China (the Federation), jointly collaborates with the Government, various business, education and sports sectors in a collective effort to pursue this common goal in providing students in particular the students under insufficient resources an opportunity to benefitted from systematic sports specific training, learn the Olympic value, and hence to discover their sports talents and enhance sports culture in schools. Retired athlete coaches are also encouraged to continue their academic studies through various educational supports provided by HKACEP leading to a successful career transition.

 

The Scheme was launched in Tin Shui Wai, Tai Po and Northern District on February and September in 2012 respectively, benefitting students from four secondary schools (i.e. QESOSA Association Tong Kwok Wah Secondary School, Tin Shui Wai Heung To Middle School, Sheung Shui Government Secondary School and Wong Shiu Chi Secondary School).  Under the circumstance of sufficient resources, the Federation expects to extend the scope of support to benefit more students and retired athletes in 2014/15 academic year of which four new schools will be included (i.e. Caritas Fanling Chan Chun Ha Secondary School, Caritas Tuen Mun Marden Foundation Secondary School, STFA Tam Pak Yu College, San Wui Commercial Society Secondary School).
