Sprehe Named Baltimore Engineer of the Year

At a banquet held on February 22, the Engineering Society of Baltimore named KCI Senior Vice President Thomas G. Sprehe, PE, BCEE, as Engineer of the Year. The award recognizes Sprehe’s technical expertise, industry leadership, and professional and personal achievements.
As manager of the firm’s Environmental Discipline, Sprehe oversees operations related to water, wastewater, solid waste, and geotechnical engineering as well as industrial environmental compliance, industrial hygiene, and hazardous waste investigations and remediation. As an avid sailor and strong advocate for environmental stewardship, he has made improving water quality in the Chesapeake Bay a priority throughout his career.
Within the industry, Sprehe is recognized for leadership in engineering innovative environmental and energy solutions. “Tom Sprehe has an unparalleled ability to demonstrate innovations for water clean-up solutions in Maryland’s Chesapeake Bay,” said Peter Gourlay, President and founder of the Maryland-Asia Environmental Partnership.
Sprehe joined KCI in 1997, assuming the role of vice president and head of the environmental division. In 2002, he was promoted to senior vice president and now serves as environmental discipline manager. After earning his bachelor’s degree from the University of Oklahoma in 1980, Sprehe returned for a master’s in civil engineering. He was named Partner of the Year in 2011 by the Maryland-Asia Environmental Partnership and Engineer of the Year in 2012 by the Maryland Section of the American Society of Civil Engineers.
Sprehe is a registered professional engineer, Board Certified Environmental Engineer and a certified examiner for the American Academy of Environmental Engineers. He currently serves on the advisory board of Johns Hopkins University, and is a member of the Water Environment Federation, American Water Works Association, Solid Waste Association of North America, the Maryland Recycling Network, and the Maryland Regional Manufacturing Institute.
