The spring turkey hunt in the national seashore will be consistent with most of the Massachusetts Department of Fish and Wildlife regulations. A national seashore turkey hunting permit will be required at no cost. This is in addition to the state hunting license and turkey permit. The turkey hunting permits at the national seashore will be issued through a lottery system and each permit will be good for one week. Hunters must obtain a Massachusetts hunting license and turkey permit prior to entering the national seashore turkey hunting permit lottery. The 2014 national seashore turkey hunting season will run the first three weeks of the state four-week turkey season, from April 28 through May 17.

To enter the spring turkey hunt lottery, a turkey hunting permit application may be obtained on the Cape Cod National Seashore website at www.nps.gov/caco. Applications are also available Monday - Friday 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM at Cape Cod National Seashore Headquarters, located at 99 Marconi Site Road, Wellfleet. Turkey hunting permit applications will need to be mailed in by March 28. The application includes all information needed to enter the spring turkey hunt lottery.

For more information about the Cape Cod National Seashore spring turkey hunt call Craig Thatcher, North District Ranger at 508-487-2100, ext. 0910, or check the park’s website at, www.nps.gov/caco.

Cape Cod

In the mid-19th century, Henry David Thoreau walked the Atlantic coastline of Cape Cod, recording his adventures in his narrative "Cape Cod". To literally follow in Thoreau’s footsteps today would require scuba gear. Cape Cod’s Outer Beach sees an average erosion rate of close to 4 feet per year.
