Squire Sanders Boosts Benefits Practice in New York Office
Lawyer Candace L. Quinn Joins Taxation and Benefits Practice
January 19, 2012 -- Candace L. Quinn, a tax lawyer who has wide-ranging experience advising public and private businesses and institutions on benefits and taxation matters, has joined global legal practice Squire Sanders. Quinn is a partner in the Squire Sanders New York office.
“Managing employee benefits and executive compensation are top priorities for CEOs who continue to be challenged by volatile economic conditions,” said Bernhard Gilbey, who heads Squire Sanders global Taxation & Benefits Practice Group. “Candace has more than 25 years of experience advising companies ranging from start ups to the Fortune 100 on all aspects of their employee benefits, executive compensation and health and welfare needs. Our clients will benefit from the breadth and depth of her expertise in this essential area.”
Quinn joins Squire Sanders from Greenberg Traurig. She counsels clients on Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA) issues, Internal Revenue Code provisions regarding retirement plans, executive compensation arrangements and employee benefit health and welfare programs for public and private companies, not-for-profit organizations and boards of directors. In addition she advises clients on fiduciary duty standards and best practice corporate governance, accounting and internal controls under the Sarbanes-Oxley Act, and the design, compliance and administration of a wide range of employee benefit plans.
She has particular expertise advising healthcare organizations including tax-exempt hospitals, hospital systems, academic medical centers, faculty practice groups, health technology companies, physicians’ practices and other healthcare and life science providers.
“Candace has exceptional ability to help non-US company leaders understand all aspects of complex US benefit plans and laws. That ability makes her a great fit for Squire Sanders’ global client base,” said deputy practice leader Mitchell S. Thompson.
Edward S. Sinick, New York office managing partner, said Quinn is a strong addition to the growing taxation and benefits group in New York, which includes partners Brian Andreoli, Jackson B. Browning, Jr. and Jeffrey S. Levin, and economist Theodor van Stephoudt.
Quinn said she is impressed with the close working relationship shared by Squire Sanders’ corporate and corporate finance lawyers and taxation and benefits professionals.
“Squire Sanders’ extensive global footprint and culture of collegiality are among the many reasons why I look forward to being part of this dynamic firm,” Quinn said.
