SSM Hospitals Nationally Recognized for Quality Patient Care

Seven SSM Health Care hospitals have been recognized as top performing hospitals in the Premier Inc. healthcare alliance QUEST: High-Performing Hospitals initiative.

ST. LOUIS, December. 22, 2011 -- Seven SSM Health Care hospitals have been recognized as top performing hospitals in the Premier Inc. healthcare alliance QUEST: High-Performing Hospitals initiative.

The recognition recognizes hospitals who are national leaders in improving patient quality and safety, reducing mortality rates and reducing costs for patients.
 

The top performing hospitals include: SSM DePaul Health Center, Bridgeton, Mo.; SSM St. Clare Health Center, Fenton, Mo.; SSM St. Mary’s Health Center, Richmond Heights, Mo.; SSM St. Joseph Health Center, St. Charles, Mo.; SSM St. Joseph Hospital West, Lake Saint Louis, Mo.; Good Samaritan Regional Health Center, Mount Vernon, Il.; and St. Mary’s Hospital, Madison, Wis.
 

A three-year project, QUEST is made up of 278 not-for-profit hospitals. The recognition is for year three of the initiative. In just 30 months, QUEST hospitals saved 25,235 lives and reduced healthcare spending by $2.85 billion through the delivery of high-quality, evidence-based care to 63,094 patients.
 

QUEST is designed to help hospitals achieve new levels of performance. Participating hospitals were challenged to overcome the main factors that lead to deaths, errors and excessive costs, and measure themselves against one another to achieve top performance.
 

This is the third year SSM DePaul Health Center, SSM St. Joseph Health Center and SSM St. Mary’s Health Center received the award, and the second year for SSM St. Clare Health Center, SSM St. Joseph Hospital West, and St. Mary’s Hospital. It is the first year for Good Samaritan Regional Health Center.
