St Bernards’ School Delivers Safe Access to the Internet with Bloxx Web Filtering
School is maximizing the power of educational online content safely in the classroom
Bloxx, the innovator in Web and email filtering and security, today announced that St Bernard’s Catholic High School is using Bloxx Web filtering, powered by Tru-View Technology, to deliver dynamic monitoring and reporting on the Web browsing activity of over 1000 students and staff.
The School had been using a Web filter supplied by Cumbria’s Regional Broadband Consortium, however it had no control over the functionality of the solution, which caused frustration for users and added to IT management time. In 2007 the School decided to look for a more flexible solution and chose a Bloxx 1250W Web Filter.
Jason Shields, Senior ICT Technician at the School, had high hopes for the Bloxx Web Filter: “We expected to be able to considerably improve incident reaction time, control and reporting. We wanted to instantly block or unblock sites to react to a situation or staff request. We also wanted to access reports on Internet use by individuals. This has all been achieved. We can now choose to block and unblock sites and can accomplish this within seconds. We are able to clearly show staff sites that are blocked and then they know they can request they are unblocked and this can happen very quickly. If any content is deemed inappropriate we can also quickly block access to this.”
The dynamic nature of Bloxx Web filtering means that unsuitable Web pages are automatically blocked and delivers the much needed Internet browsing protection the school demands for its students and staff.
Since installing the Bloxx Web Filter, the staff at the School has increased confidence that students are able to access educationally-rich material while staying safe online, particularly through the effective blocking of anonymous proxy sites.
Mr Shields comments: “We’ve seen a massive reduction in the attempted use by pupils of proxies to bypass filtering restrictions. This has been the single biggest benefit of us installing the Bloxx Web Filter, helping us to improve e-safety and significantly decreasing risk for the school.”
He concludes: “The Bloxx Web Filter is a huge improvement compared to our previous solution. The control we have and the speed with which we can accomplish tasks is fantastic.”
