2014 Awards to Introduce Chinese Language Investment, Alternatives and Best Newcomer Categories

HONG KONG — The State Street 2014 Institutional Press Awards Asia Pacific opened for entries today, looking to recognise outstanding performance in institutional financial services reporting across publications in the Asia Pacific region.

Now in its third year in this region and thirteen years globally, the 2014 Awards will honour the contribution of journalists covering pensions, investment, alternatives and investor services and technology issues over the past 12 months. This year also introduces Chinese language categories which focus on investment, alternatives and best newcomer. The awards are open to journalists, including freelancers, from online, wire, trade, and major daily newspaper and magazine publications that are based in the Asia Pacific region or have an Asia Pacific bureau.

An independent judging panel of six respected figures from the investment, financial services and journalism industries, including two new judges from Australia and China, will choose the winner in each category. The awards will be presented at a ceremony in Hong Kong in late November.

The awards recognise excellence in journalism in the following English and Chinese categories:

English language categories 

All articles should be submitted in English. Articles originally published in other languages must be translated into English of a standard which best reflects the original article.

  1. Journalist of the Year – Pensions Issues

Submissions for this award should include two articles covering developments on pensions in Asia Pacific, institutional investment management or regional pension policy developments.

  1. Journalist of the Year – Investment

Submissions for this award should include two articles covering investment issues within institutional fund management, financial markets or economic research.

  1. Journalist of the Year – Investor Services & Technology

Submissions for this award should include two articles covering financial technology and data and/or back- and middle-office topics.

  1. Journalist of the Year – Alternatives

Submissions for this award should include two articles specifically covering the alternatives space: real estate, hedge funds, and/or private equity.

  1. Award for Best Newcomer

Submissions for this award should include two articles demonstrating depth of understanding of institutional issues in a variety of styles. This is for journalists who have spent less than two years working in financial journalism.

  1. Award for Best Editorial Comment

Submissions should be made by editors/ senior reporters and include two leader/comment pieces that demonstrate original, timely and interesting thought on key institutional issues.

  1. Award for Outstanding Contribution to Institutional Journalism

To be awarded at the discretion of the judging panel.

 

Chinese language categories

All articles should be submitted in Chinese only.

  1. Journalist of the Year – Investment

Submissions for this award should include two articles covering investment issues within institutional fund management, financial markets or economic research.

  1. Journalist of the Year – Alternatives

Submissions for this award should include two articles specifically covering the alternatives space: real estate, hedge funds, and/or private equity.

  1. Award for Best Newcomer

Submissions for this award should include two articles demonstrating depth of understanding of institutional issues in a variety of styles. This is for journalists who have spent less than two years working in financial journalism.

 

HOW TO ENTER

Entrants should complete the online submission form on State Street’s Institutional Press Award’s website (www.statestreetpressawards.com) and submit two supporting articles per category entered, published over the last 12 months (1 September 2013 – 31 August 2014). The same articles cannot be submitted in multiple categories or languages.

Entries will be judged on style, content, accuracy and timeliness. All entries must be submitted via online application by the competition closing date, Monday, September 22, 2014.

The winners in each category, plus the first two runners-up, in both English and Chinese categories, will be announced at the State Street Institutional Press Awards, Asia Pacific, which will take place in Hong Kong on Wednesday, November 26, 2014. A press release announcing the winners will also be issued following the awards ceremony in Hong Kong.
