Scottish sea freight specialists Streamline Shipping Group has implemented a real-time Proof of Delivery (POD) exchange from NetDespatch. Streamline is the largest freight carrier operating in the Orkney Islands and the Shetland Isles and will use the online NetDespatch PODXchange service to provide visibility of its delivery fleet to its industry partners and business customers as well as exporting data and signatures to them in the format that they require.

"The time was right for Streamline to invest in a proven POD track and trace system to extend the company's competitive edge. By implementing PODXchange, Streamline will lead the way in delivery information provision for the Isles and provide important service improvements to our customers," says Ian Adam, Director, Streamline Shipping Group.

"We make more than 5,000 parcel deliveries a week; our clients will benefit from greater transparency in the supply chain and they will be able to provide their own customers with timely accurate reports on their deliveries. Receiving live PODs electronically, transformed into codes and formats that their own systems recognise, is a huge benefit compared to the out-of-date manual systems used elsewhere," he adds.

Streamline drivers will use Motorola MC70 hand held computers to record delivery events and signatures for transmission to PODXchange; this will simplify internal administration and provide important customer service improvements, including full visibility of consignments as they move from point to point in the delivery cycle.

"The web-based software has been easy to integrate with our own business systems and in particular with the different business software programs used by our clients - many of which are provided out of the box. Everyone will benefit from this new technology as it will enable us to ensure that we provide the best service possible at optimum cost to our clients," says Ian Adam.

Streamline intends rolling out the system to the rest of its UK operations in the near future. The company has an extensive customer base that includes manufacturing, oil and gas, utilities, haulage, distribution, shipping and supply chain management clients. It operates from five strategically located facilities throughout the UK to provide a comprehensive range of services to meet customers' Scottish freight requirements.
