Wawasan Open University offers industry-relevant programmes for Open Distance Learning and On Campus Learning full-time studies.

Penang, Malaysia, June 9, 2014 - (PressReleasePoint) - Sharwin Palaniasamy, 25, who holds a Diploma in Land Surveying, believes that the Bachelor of Business (Hons) in Banking and Finance (BBBF) will provide him the knowledge needed to pursue his dream to become a successful entrepreneur.

With the background in Geomatic Engineering and Hydrographic Surveying, I realise that I also need to have financial literacy to make effective decisions with all of my financial resources,” said Sharwin who enrolled with Wawasan Open University (WOU) in the January 2013 intake.

Working in the oil and gas industry, it is essential for him to have financial knowledge to enhance his career towards a managerial role.  “It is important for me to understand the financial statement, balance sheet and how money works.  Our income statement shows us our problems and successes.  And if we know what to look for, we can easily find our solutions to our financial problems,” he continued.

The BBBF programme gives him a better understanding on how to earn and manage money; how to invest; and how to donate the profits to help others.

He enrolled for the programme at WOU because of the flexible timetable that allows him to continue working without disruption.  “I have to travel worldwide and with limited time.  WOU through its Open Distance Learning (ODL) gives me the best option to pursue my BBBF programme.  I could do my assignments in Abu Dhabi with peace of mind and with the support of tutor and friends in Malaysia.  Their support is fantastic and the materials are brilliant,” explained Sharwin from Ipoh, Perak.

“WOU ensures a well structured programme and when I’m done with the BBBF programme, I believe I can go far.  Time moves on, technology changes, organisations grow and shrink, and occupations go through difficult times.  Therefore, it is always good to have different type of skills to survive in this era of globalisation,” he said.

Exclusively dedicated to working professionals, WOU offers more than 20 industry-relevant Bachelor’s degree programmes through its four schools, namely the School of Business and Administration (SBA), School of Science and Technology (SST), School of Education, Languages and Communications (SELC), and School of Foundation and Liberal Studies (SFLS).

All WOU degree programmes are industry-driven and highly relevant to the needs of the current labour market.  WOU equips students with the professional skills and knowledge that put them in control of their careers.

Join WOU today; enrolment for ODL July 2014 intake is now ongoing.  Learners can register through Regular Entry or via WOU’s unique Open Entry Admission System that takes their work experience into consideration.  Learners need to be at least 21 years old with a minimum PMR/SPM/MCE/UEC/Diploma or equivalent qualifications.

For a limited time, WOU is offering attractive fee rebates of up to RM650 for new students who enrol in any of its ODL programmes. Alternatively, working professionals can also apply for the free WOU Study Grant for the value of up to RM600 before 15 June 2014.

In addition to the undergraduate degree programmes, WOU also offers a suite of ODL postgraduate programmes for working professionals, as well as On Campus Learning (OCL) full-time studies to school leavers and diploma holders.
