Stuart Walker announced as SWPP 'Pet Photographer of the Year' 2010

Glasgow based photographer Stuart Walker has been awarded 'Pet Photographer of the Year' at the annual awards ceremony of the Society of Wedding and Portrait Photographers.

Glasgow, Scotland. 19th January 2011.

A prestigious award has been won by Stuart Walker Photography, based in Scotland.

The Winning Image

The award is based on a process of selection over the year, starting with entries being made in a variety of categories to a monthly image competition. The competition is open to members of the Society of Wedding and Portrait Photographers (SWPP). Images are received worldwide and each one is judged on it's own merits, being given either a Gold, Silver, Bronze or 'Unclassified' rank. Gold award images are deemed to be of the highest quality and are put forward to the short list for the Photographer of the Year award. There are thousands of images entered each year and from the monthly winners the number is whittled down to around three nominations per category. Stuart had two of the three nominations in Pet Portraiture. The result was announced by Juliet Jones of the SWPP and her co-host Phillipa Forrester during the awards dinner in London.

Stuart says "It is possible for a photographer to win the yearly award based on the success of just one image, but I think that producing consistently high quality images is more likely to win and also better for paying clients. After all, those are the people who's opinion matters most. I am very grateful to all my clients for the opportunity they have given me by commissioning me to photograph their pets and I look forward to continuing to provide a unique and valuable service to animal lovers."
