Sun Pacific Selects HarvestMark for PTI Compliance Across its Operation, Including High Speed Packing Lines
Newest release of HarvestMark PTI adds vision system and labeling modules for cost effective, industrial support of automated packing facilities
Redwood City, Calif., February 16, 2012- (PressReleasePoint) - YottaMark Inc. today announced that Sun Pacific, the largest grower, packer, and marketer of citrus in the United States, has selected the company’s HarvestMark PTI solution to achieve compliance with the Produce Traceability Initiative (PTI) in its packing operations. Sun Pacific will take advantage of new automatic case identification and labeling across its packing facilities, including implementation in the world’s largest citrus packinghouse.
Sun Pacific has already begun deploying the newest release of HarvestMark PTI, which has been extended to meet the demands of high speed packing operations. The system integrates a best-of-breed industrial vision system to automatically recognize box artwork, stamps, and markings on cases of produce to identify the “GTIN” associated with a box as it moves down the packing line, at speeds up to 3,100 boxes an hour. Supporting leading print-and-apply label applicators, the HarvestMark PTI system automatically generates the right label to be applied on the box at full line speed. Built-in remote technical support ensures rapid identification of and response to any system issues, keeping the packing lines running. The solution is integrated with the HarvestMark platform, making GTIN list and label template updates easy, and securely capturing data from the packing line for later use in on-demand trace-back, trace-forward, and production analytics.
“For over 40 years Sun Pacific has provided fresh, high-quality produce for both domestic and export markets,” said Al Bates, General Manager of Sun Pacific and member of the PTI implementation committee. “We evaluated several vendors and chose HarvestMark because of their significant experience in traceability, their reputation for reliability, and the newest version of HarvestMark PTI that allows us to easily label a mixture of products, box types, and configurations. Their PTI solution integrated seamlessly with our existing operation and offered us accurate and cost-effective PTI compliance.“
Sun Pacific, one of the world’s largest integrated fresh fruit operations, packs a wide range of products including navels, kiwi, table grapes, and Cuties® clementines. The company ships over 35 million cartons a year out of five locations in California.
"Sun Pacific presented us with rigorous requirements to achieve PTI compliance cost effectively, without reducing the productivity of their operation,” said J. Scott Carr, president and CEO of YottaMark. “To meet their needs we had to provide a seamless combination of automatic labeling and batch printing that would support all of their packing operations. We’re proud to have risen to the challenge with our newest HarvestMark product release. Building on our core platform, we added industrial vision recognition and print-and-apply interfaces to extend the available feature set. We look forward to supporting Sun Pacific as their trusted partner for traceability.”
The HarvestMark PTI solution, in use by hundreds of shippers from Canada to Argentina, makes compliance with the Produce Traceability Initiative easy to implement and manage. HarvestMark PTI includes all the hardware and software needed to produce PTI-compliant case, RPC, and pallet labels. Trace-back, trace-forward, and production data is securely hosted on the HarvestMark platform, delivering unique and valuable supply chain reporting, and enabling on-demand traceability anywhere in the supply chain.
